UBC collaboration with BroadbandTV Corporation a success

Six years ago, BroadbandTV Corporation (BBTV) had three employees. Now, with more than 70 full-time employees and 7,500 YouTube and content partners including NBA, Discovery and A&E, it is one of the top digital media companies in Canada.

UBC Faculty of Applied Science has collaborated with BBTV during the company’s growth. The collaboration began when UBC Electrical and Computer Engineering professor Rabab Ward sought out BBTV CEO Shahrzad Rafati to partner on a project to design multimedia fingerprinting technologies. Together, they received an NSERC Strategic Grant in 2008.

Currently, three UBC PhD graduates work as research engineers at BBTV as well as chief technology officer Mehrdad Fatourechi, a former PhD student and research associate under Ward’s supervision. For more information, click here.
