Book launch: Visualizing Climate Change

An event will be held to launch Prof. Stephen Sheppard’s book Visualizing Climate Change: A Guide to Visual Communication of Climate Change and Developing Local Solutions, a review of climate change impacts and best practices in community sustainability. His book outlines tools for communicating climate science and future scenarios visually, from computer-generated images and interactive maps to videogames. The launch will feature demonstrations of visualization techniques to engage and mobilize communities on climate action.

Sheppard, director of UBC’s Collaborative for Advanced Landscape Planning, led the Future Delta project, a videogame created by UBC researchers to help the citizens of Delta, B.C. reduce their carbon footprint and prepare for climate change, including major flooding risks related to global warming.
