Faculty of Education researcher named AERA Fellow

The American Educational Research Association (AERA) honours Bonny Norton, a professor in the Faculty of Education, as a 2012 Fellow for Outstanding Educational Research. Norton, the UBC Distinguished University Scholar in Language and Literacy Education, was also the inaugural recipient in 2010 of the Senior Researcher Award by the Second Language Research Special Interest Group of the AERA.

Norton is an international leader in second language and applied linguistics research, and has been credited with changing the face of second language research through her work on identity, investment, and imagined communities.

The awards recognize Norton’s dedication to teaching and mentoring emerging scholars and graduate students in Africa and wider international communities.
