The American Association for the Advancement of Science will hold its Annual Meeting in Vancouver for the first time.


177 Number of Annual Meetings the AAAS has held
8 Number of meetings held outside of the United States (three in Toronto, three in Montreal, one in Ottawa and one special national meeting in Mexico City.)
1981 The last time the meeting was held in Canada (Toronto).
800+ Number of journalists and public information officers attending and reporting on science news at AAAS annual meetings.
8,126 Number of attendees in the 2011 meeting in Washington, DC.
2,079 Number of people attended Family Science Day in 2011.
370 Number of academic symposium proposals submitted (140 from Canada.)
81 UBC researchers were involved in 57 symposium submissions.
27 UBC researchers are participating in 31 approved symposia.
14 Number of sustainability-related symposia with UBC participants.
