Jack Taunton inducted into the BC Athletics Hall of Fame

Jack Taunton, professor in the Dept. of Family Practice, has been named the 2011 B.C. Athletics Hall of Fame inductee for his outstanding contributions as an athlete, community builder and sports medicine physician.

Taunton, co-founder of the UBC Allan McGavin Sports Medicine Centre, maintains an active sports medicine practice and conducts clinical and exercise medicine research with a focus on overuse injuries and injury prevention. He was the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) for Vancouver’s 2010 Winter Games and served as CMO for the Canadian teams at the Sydney Olympics, two Pan American Games and two World Student Games.

He has completed more than 60 marathons and continues to run and race, cycle and cross-country ski. He also co-founded the Vancouver Sun Run, Canada’s largest 10K road race since 1985.
