Computer science professor wins prize paper prize on computer vision

Prof. David Lowe received the International Conference on Computer Vision (ICCV) “Test of Time” Award for his 1999 paper “Object Recognition from Local Scale-Invariant Features”. The award is given to a paper that has shown significant and long term impact on the field of computer vision. Lowe’s paper has been cited more than 3,000 times in Google Scholar and the journal version of the paper has received over 15,000 citations. His SIFT method described in the paper has been licensed by UBC to over a dozen companies.
