UBC Ritsumeikan celebrates 20 years

The UBC Ritsumeikan Academic Exchange Programme, a partnership between UBC and Ritsumeikan University in Kyoto, Japan, is celebrating its 20th anniversary and a renewed agreement between the two institutions.

The award-winning UBC Ritsumeikan Academic Exchange Programme enables 100 students from Ritsumeikan University to come to UBC each year to live and study. Living alongside UBC students in UBC residences, students from both universities gain international and intercultural experience. The agreement also provides opportunities for faculty members to participate in the exchange.

The original exchange agreement was signed in 1991 and was due to expire the spring of 2011. The two institutions have agreed to renew the agreement and a new program is being created entitled “The Ritsumeikan UBC Global Citizenship Program” which will be launched in September, 2012.

The anniversary celebration will be held on Friday, Sept. 16 and will be attended by UBC President Prof. Stephen Toope, Ritsumeikan University President Prof. Kiyofumi Kawaguchi and Hideki Ito, Consul General of Japan in Vancouver.
