Health Council of Canada recognizes two UBC students for virtual learning presentation

Two UBC students were recognized by the Health Council of Canada for their winning entry in the Health Innovation Award contest, highlighting best practices in Canadian health care.

Allison Mariko Nakanishi, an MD student, and Frank Ka-Shing Leung, a graduating student from the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, were awarded first place in the team category for their entry, “Virtual Patient Teaching Tools: An Innovative Model to Enhance Canada’s Health Care Education.” Their winning entry presented the benefits of virtual teaching tools that help students in health professions to improve their gaps in knowledge and apply their training in a clinical practice setting.

Now in its second year, the Health Innovation Award is an opportunity for Canada’s future health leaders to contribute to the discussion on health care renewal. This year’s contest challenged Canadian university and college students to identify a best practice in health care.

The winners will receive $1,000 and attend the awards ceremony hosted by the Health Council on May 30 in Ottawa.
