Media are invited to join hundreds of UBC students tomorrow — Wednesday, April 20 — as they stage a non-partisan “vote mob” on campus to encourage young voters to participate in the upcoming federal election.
Students will begin gathering for the vote mob at the UBC Knoll at 11:30 a.m. At 12:15 p.m., as many as 500 students will run around campus, entering select buildings (including the Irving K. Barber Learning Centre) while organizers film a video that will be posted to YouTube next week. The vote mob will end at the Flag Pole Plaza between 1-1:15 p.m.
Editors: Student organizers are available for interviews from 11:30 a.m.-12:15 p.m. and before and after the event. To arrange interviews or confirm the vote mob route, contact student co-organizer Mary Leong at 778-319-8897.
The UBC vote mob (and resulting video) joins similar efforts by university students across Canada to increase youth voter turnout on May 2.
