The Institute of Asian Research, Canada’s leading research centre on Asia, has announced that the Summer Institute China Program will be held for the 2011 session from June 5-17. This intensive two-week program is designed for business executives, government officials, lawyers, and other professionals to prepare them for work in or with China.
The first week of the program is held at the Institute of Asian Research in Vancouver, followed by a two-night retreat in Whistler, where participants receive instruction from internationally renowned China scholars and business leaders. Participants then travel to Shanghai for three days of instruction from Chinese policymakers and academics, as well as a full day of site visits.
The program uses a variety of innovative approaches to train participants, including the Summer Institute’s role-playing simulations and mock negotiations. Topics that will be covered in the 2011 session include supply chains, contracts and property, negotiating in China, private-public sector relations, risk management, and intellectual property.
