Event: UBC Engineering’s Open House

UBC Engineering students will provide an inside look at how things work, from robotics and wind tunnel aerodynamics to nanotechnology and protein solar cells.
Between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m., UBC Thunderbird Robotics – Snowbots team members will give a demo of their robot racers. Operating without human control, these autonomous robots will navigate a twisting, obstacle-filled course.
Other student displays include a solar car and a heavy-lift aerodesign project that seeks to design, fabricate and fly remote-controlled aircraft capable of lifting the heaviest payload possible.
Open house exhibits encompass:
• making the products you use every day such as pharmaceutical drugs and cosmetics
• friendly robots
• super materials that can change our world such as nano-scaffolded artificial skin to help burn victims
UBC labs open to the public include:
• aerodynamics – also known as the wind tunnel
• biomedical engineering
• system-on-chip (SOC)
• protein solar cells
• nanotechnology
• antenna electromagnetic compatibility
