Event: Celebrate Learning Week 2010 at UBC’s Vancouver campus
Date/Place: Oct. 23-31, 2010, various times and locations
Media and the public are invited to take part in Celebrate Learning Week at the University of British Columbia’s Vancouver campus. This year’s event, Exploring the Dimensions of an Exceptional Learning Environment, features more than 65 workshops, lectures and public events between Oct. 23 and 31.
“Celebrate Learning is an opportunity to acknowledge teaching and learning innovation and to explore possibilities of further enhancing learning environments at UBC,” says Anna Kindler, Vice Provost and Associate Vice-President Academic Affairs.
“It also provides a chance to confirm UBC’s commitment to excellence in teaching and to re-emphasize the value that we attribute to faculty contributions to the education of our students.”
The week features UBC and visiting experts on a wide range of learning topics – it is the analog to UBC’s Celebrate Research Week held each March. Highlighted public events include:
UBC Film Production Program’s 40th Anniversary – The Big Picture
Oct. 25-29, 9:30 a.m. – 5 p.m.
UBC Bookstore, Event Room, 6200 University Boulevard
UBC Film and the UBC Bookstore will be screening films from UBC Film’s 40th anniversary celebration, such as Mina Shum’s ‘Double Happiness’ and Bruce Sweeney’s ‘Betty and Vera Go Lawn Bowling.’
Step Outside Your Sensory Comfort Zone / Introduction to the Braille Code
Oct. 26, 1- 2 p.m. and 2:15 – 3:15 p.m.
Library Block, Room 278, Scarfe Building, 2125 Main Mall
The first session will give participants a chance to experience activities without vision or with diminished vision, and to examine visual impairment in the context of communication. The second event features a brief history of braille and an introduction to the braille alphabet and numbers. By the end of the hour, participants will be able to de-code alphabetic braille.
Celebrate Sustainability Learning at UBC

Allies in Health Care: 2nd Annual Community and Patient Fair for Health Professional Education

West Atrium of the Life Sciences Centre, 2350 Health Sciences Mall
This interprofessional event connects community-based organizations, patient support groups and individuals involved in these agencies with students and faculty at UBC to promote partnerships and the education of health professionals.
