Media are invited to the opening of the Simon K.Y. Lee HKU-UBC House on the University of British Columbia’s Vancouver campus.
The new facilities were made possible by a $4-million donation to UBC to develop an international student residence, providing students from Hong Kong, and particularly from the University of Hong Kong (HKU) with the opportunity to study at UBC.
Media may attend the speaking program of the opening ceremony, which begins at 1:15 p.m. Speakers will be available at the conclusion of the program to speak with media. Media are also invited on a tour of the facilities scheduled for 2 p.m.
Available to speak about the new facilities:
- Philip Lee, son of Dr. Simon K.Y. Lee
- Lap-Chee Tsui, Vice-Chancellor and President of HKU
- Julia Palmiano, UBC student
The $4-million gift came from Hong Kong–based philanthropist Dr. Simon K.Y. Lee and was announced in 2006. Lee passed away earlier this year; his eldest son Philip Lee, and other members of the family, are attending the opening.
