Computer science prof receives outstanding service award

Computer science professor Kellogg S. Booth was awarded the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) SIGGRAPH Outstanding Service Award.  He received the award at the SIGGRAPH 2010 Conference, an international event on computer graphics and interactive techniques. 

This award recognizes a volunteer who has given extraordinary service to ACM SIGGRAPH and its community over a significant period of time.

Students place second in green building design competition

UBC engineering students Ivan Tang, Edwin Guerra, Vasyl Odyegov, Richard Wang and School of Architecture and Landscape  Architecture student Aleksandra Skibicki won second place at the 2010 Natural Talent Design competition in New Orleans.   Their project, entitled ‘Ariel Home’,  is a conceptual design of a net-zero energy green building residence.

The competition, themed ‘Small, Green and Affordable’, was co-sponsored by the U.S. Green Building Council, the Cascadia Green Building Council and the Salvation Army.

AAAI recognizes computer science prof

The Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AAAI) has honoured computer science professor Alan Mackworth with a Distinguished Service Award. 

Mackworth is recognized for his research contributions to artificial intelligence and his service in  leadership roles including the presidencies of AAAI, International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence (IJCAI), and the Canadian Society for Computational Studies of Intelligence (CSCSI).
