UBC professor receives Governor General’s Medal in Architecture

UBC School of Architecture and Landscape Architecture Prof. Patricia Patkau has received, along with architects John Patkau and Michael Cunningham, the Governor General’s Medal in Architecture for La Grande Bibliotheque du Quebec in Montreal. The medal recognizes outstanding achievement in recently built projects by Canadian architects.

Opened in 2005, La Grande Bibliothèque is a massive national library and archives, consisting of a general library, a children’s library, the collection Québécoise and a variety of public spaces.

La Grande Bibliotheque du Quebec was one of 12 projects awarded Governor General’s Medals for 2010 by the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada and the Canadian Council for Arts.

UBC Library launches new site on Chung Collection

The Wallace B. Chung and Madeline H. Chung Collection has launched a new website at http://chung.library.ubc.ca.  The site highlights the Chung Collection’s three main themes: immigration and settlement, early British Columbia history and the Canadian Pacific Railway Company.

Focus groups of faculty, staff, students and community members provided feedback on the development of the site.   The new features include quick search and advanced search functions, a “most viewed items” feature, an appealing re-design and an extensive catalogue of digitized items.

Botanical Garden offers new Young Explorers Summer Day Camp

The UBC Botanical Garden will be offering Young Explorers Summer Day Camp, a weeklong environmental and recreational adventure for children ages 7-11. The camp will create connections with nature, wildlife, plants, science, and the environment through games, crafts and exploration the Garden, the Greenheart Canopy Walkway, and the UBC campus.
