The current term of the President and Vice-Chancellor of the University of British Columbia, Professor Stephen J. Toope, expires June 30, 2011.  The Board of Governors and President Toope have agreed that the President shall be considered for reappointment; accordingly, the Board’s Management Resources Compensation Committee (MRCC) has established a Select Committee to review the performance of Professor Toope and provide a report to the MRCC, which will then make a recommendation to the Board about the President’s possible reappointment.

The MRCC has appointed the following members to serve on the Select Committee:

  • Brad Bennett (Chair)
  • Sarah Morgan-Silvester (Chancellor)
  • Theresa Arsenault (appointed)
  • Anne-Marie Fenger (staff)
  • Nassif Ghoussoub (faculty)
  • Sean Heisler (student)
  • Bill Levine (appointed)
  • Doug Mitchell (alumni)
  • Susan Yurkovich (appointed)

To assist in preparing its report for the MRCC, the Select Committee will conduct a broadly based consultation that includes both on- and off-campus organizations.  It also invites individuals to communicate their assessment of Professor Toope, with reference to the issue of his reappointment.

Persons wishing to communicate with the Select Committee should do so in writing no later than May 1, 2010. Please address all correspondence to the Chair of the Committee (Mr. Brad Bennett) in care of:
