Faculty of Graduate Studies announces new Chair

Hillel Goelman has been appointed as the new Chair of the Interdisciplinary Studies Graduate Program effective August 1, 2009. Goelman is a professor in the Dept. of Educational and Counselling Psychology and Special Education (ECPS) and an associate member of the Dept. of Pediatrics. He is currently Senior Scholar with the Human Early Learning Partnership (HELP), a research centre within the College for Interdisciplinary Studies.

In the past 15 years at UBC Goelman has fulfilled the roles of Associate Director and Graduate Coordinator of the Interdisciplinary Centre for the Study of Curriculum and Instruction in the Faculty of Education; Graduate Advisor for the Graduate Program in Human Learning, Development and Instruction in ECPS; founder and first director of the faculty-wide Institute for Early Childhood Education and Research; and Associate Director and Senior Scholar in HELP.

UBC engineering professors appointed as sustainable mining experts

Grandview Gold Inc. has appointed UBC mining engineers Assoc. Prof. Bern Klein and Assoc. Prof. Marcello Veiga to the company’s Board of Advisors.

The professors in the UBC Norman B. Keevil Institute of Mining Engineering have experience in developing sustainable and environmentally conscious mining communities around the world.

School of Journalism partners with CBC Radio 3 on music wiki project

The UBC Graduate School of Journalism has been awarded a $15,000 grant to work with CBC Radio 3 to create a Canadian music wiki website.

The site will provide a platform for sharing passion and enthusiasm for Canadian bands and create a rich resource of information about music.

Prof. Alfred Hermida will supervise the project with journalism student Amanda Ash, who will intern at CBC Radio 3.
