Students and alumni jockey for 4,000 Winter Games opportunities at UBC 2010 careers fair

As many as 1,000 UBC students and alumni will jockey for more than 4,000 2010 Winter Games-related career opportunities at the UBC 2010 Opportunities Fair this Friday at the Vancouver Public Library.

U.S. Olympic Host Broadcaster NBC, VANOC, Air Canada and the companies staging the Games’ opening and closing ceremonies are among 21 international, national and local organizations attending the event. They are recruiting for paid and volunteer 2010 positions in such areas as broadcasting and media, hospitality and service and marketing.

The event is organized by UBC Career Services, which will provide participants with career advice, including tips for resumes, cover letters and how to approach employers in difficult economic times.

Led by the UBC 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Secretariat, UBC is interacting with the Games in three key areas: research, learning and facilities. The 2010 Opportunities Fair is one of many UBC 2010 learning opportunities, including a public symposia series, ongoing course curricula and cultural events.
