Event: UBC Christmas dinner for international and domestic students living in residences who can’t go home for the holidays.
Date / Time: Thursday, December 20th, 2007. Sittings at 12:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. (UBC President Toope will be dining with students at 12:30 p.m.)
Place: International House auditorium, 1783 West Mall, (north end of campus, off NW Marine Dr.)
Parking: Rose Garden Parkade, off NW Marine Dr., or meter parking at the Museum of Anthropology off NW Marine Dr.
International students who can’t make it home for the holidays will still enjoy a taste of home at UBC’s annual Christmas dinner. UBC President Stephen Toope will also be present to help students celebrate the season.
Approximately 250 students will be treated to a traditional turkey dinner and dessert, a personal visit from Santa, prize draws and a round of Christmas carols.
“We want to provide a very warm and a very Canadian feast for those who may be a long way from their families,” says Michelle Suderman, Associate Director at International House.
Volunteers, including retired UBC staff and faculty, as well as members of the UBC RCMP detachment, donate their time to make the dinner possible, including decorating, cooking and serving students.
This is the 14th year that UBC has been organizing the dinner. Students pay $2 to help defray costs.
