International students who can’t get home during the Christmas break can still get a taste of home this holiday season at UBC’s annual Christmas Dinner.

Approximately 250 students will be treated to a traditional turkey dinner and dessert, a personal visit from Santa, prize draws and a round of Christmas carols.

“For international students, this is a great opportunity to soak in the holiday cheer — Canadian style,” says Enzula Tavormina, chair of this year’s UBC Christmas Dinner.

“Students can still get a taste of home — in their home away from home.”

Volunteers, including retired UBC staff and faculty, as well as members of the UBC RCMP detachment, donate their time to make the dinner possible, including decorating, cooking and serving students.

This is the 13th year that UBC has been organizing the dinner. Students pay $2 to help defray costs.

NB: To minimize disruptions, members of the media are invited to cover the dinner from 12 noon – 1 p.m.
