Nominations sought for CUFA Distinguished Academics
Awards

The Confederation of University Faculty Associations of British
Columbia (CUFA/BC) is accepting nominations for the Academic of
the Year Award and the Career Achievement Award for the thirteenth
annual Distinguished Academics Awards.

CUFA/BC represents more than 4,300 professors, instructors, professional
librarians and other academic staff at UBC, SFU, UVic, UNBC and
Royal Roads University. The mandate of the group is to advocate
a high quality and broadly accessible system of public post-secondary
education and research in British Columbia.

Send nominations by February 5, 2007. For information on nomination

Holiday wreath sale at the UBC Botanical
Garden

Each year the volunteer Friends of the Garden at the UBC Botanical
Garden makes more than 300 fresh holiday season wreaths available
for sale at the Shop in the Garden daily from 10 a.m. to 4:30
p.m. Including rare and unusual plant materials from the Botanical
Garden and members’ private gardens, each wreath is unique
and varies in size from 10 to 30 inches. Wreaths start at $30.

Table decorations, door swags, miniature Christmas trees and
decorations are also available in the Shop in the Garden from
Nov. 29 until Dec. 8 (or until supplies run out). All proceeds
support education, research and plant conservation at the UBC
Botanical Garden and Centre of Plant Research.

UBC Professor named Secretary to Global
Academy

Prof. Emeritus David Hardwick has been elected
Secretary of the International Academy of Pathology (IAP) at its
Centennial Congress in Montreal. Hardwick, Professor Emeritus
of Pathology and Pediatrics, is currently Special Advisor on Planning
overseeing facility and AV/IT design and presentation for the
Faculty of Medicine’s province-wide Distributed Medical Education
Program.

Hardwick created an online portal that provides free access
to Pathology education and research reports to more than 70,000
pathologists and physicians in 100 countries. Called The Knowledge
Hub for Pathology, it can be found at www.uscap.org.
The IAP is the world’s largest and oldest Pathology organization,
founded in Montreal in 1906. Founding members included Prof.
F.F. Wesbrook, UBC’s founding President.

Attention Professors Emeriti – Campus
Plan feedback needed

The Campus Plan is being revised through a process that will
take an estimated eighteen months. All members of the campus community
are being asked to assist, but of special importance is the feedback
and experience of our UBC Professors Emeriti.

UBC is looking for feedback on past campus developments that
have been successful (or not successful) in enhancing the student
experience and supporting teaching and learning. Such developments
may include building enhancements, common areas, bike paths, pedestrian
greenways, etc.
