Happy Fifth Birthday: UBC Learning Exchange

UBC Reports | Vol. 51 | No. 10 | Oct. 6, 2005

When UBC launched the Learning Exchange in 1999, 30 students signed up to do volunteer work in Downtown Eastside organizations. When the Main Street storefront opened in the fall of 2000, a handful of residents came to the computer drop-in. Since then, Learning Exchange programs have grown exponentially. This year, 1,000 students will volunteer in Eastside schools and community organizations. Now, more than 50 people come to the storefront every day, for computer training and Internet access, to take part in an ESL program and to access UBC Library resources and other UBC services.
