VANCOUVER — Four teams of international space engineers will launch rocket models at UBC.

The Eggs Prize Launch competition is part of the International Space University Summer Session Program and challenges graduate-level students to build rocket models which could safely transport a raw egg — an eggonaut — and a bottle of maple syrup, representing heavy equipment.

The model rockets, measuring approximately 60cm tall, must successfully launch and reach an altitude of 125-150 meters before landing, and leave their payloads undamaged.

“The competition gives students a hands-on opportunity to conduct basic rocketry research while developing vehicles that could simulate a real rocket mission,” says Marek Sadowski, an ISU Teaching Associate in Space Systems Analysis and Design.

The teams will construct model rockets on July 27. The competition will take place on August 5, 2005.
