Conference For Young Women Facing Breast Cancer
at UBC

On which date of a budding romance do you inform your companion
that you have no breasts? How do you keep your bearings when you
are catapulted from new motherhood to menopause? How can you relate
to your friend’s wedding anxieties about when you are worried
about planning your own funeral? To support young women facing these
questions, a group of young breast cancer patients, several of whom
work at UBC and call themselves “The Young and the Breastless,”
are organizing the first conference of its kind May 14 and 15.

Topics will include fertility, sexuality, emotional realities,
support, and complementary therapies. Presenters include Dr. Karen
Gelmon, head of the BC Cancer Agency’s breast tumour group;
Kathryn Nicholson, a counsellor at the BC Cancer Agency; Dr. Elaine
Drysdale, BC Cancer Agency psychiatrist; and author Marlene A. Schiwy.

Registration and general information about the event is available
online at www.theyoungandthebreastless.ca,
