The Canadian Cancer Society BC and Yukon Division and the
University of British Columbia’s Faculty of Forestry have
joined together to establish a long-term home for Camp Goodtimes.
Camp Goodtimes is the Canadian Cancer Society’s special camp
for kids with a history of cancer.
The new campsite is located at the beautiful Loon Lake Outdoor
Education Centre in UBC’s Malcolm Knapp Research Forest
near Maple Ridge. The first campers will arrive in the summer
of 2004 to mark the 20th anniversary of Camp.
Canadian Cancer Society BC and Yukon Division CEO Barbara
Kaminsky is thrilled that the camp will finally have a place
to call home. “We’d been looking for a long-term
camp site for quite some time and we’re thrilled with our
new partnership with UBC. Loon Lake is a gift to all the children
of BC and the Yukon who have a history of cancer.”
UBC president Martha Piper says the university looks forward
to collaborating with the Canadian Cancer Society on this
important initiative. “The Malcolm Knapp Research Forest
has been providing UBC students with a special learning experience
for more than 50 years. We are delighted to be able to share
this resource with the communities we serve, and we’re
very pleased that it will contribute to the well-being of
children living with cancer.”
