Time Piece 1926

UBC Reports | Vol. 49 | No. 6 | Jun.
5, 2003

As long as there has been a UBC there have been emergency
response exercises and drills. One of the earliest was in
1926 when the four-man crew of this tin lizzy fire truck stood
ready in front of the library. Apparently uniforms were optional
back then. Today, UBC continues to engage in training exercises.
On June 19, firefighters, ambulance, police and other campus
emergency personnel will take part in a full-scale emergency
exercise. The staff will be challenged by multiple incidents
happening on campus as the result of a naturally occurring
disaster. Props and actors will add to the realism. But don’t
be alarmed, as the photo shows, we were prepared then and
we’re prepared now.
