How do the math and science skills of Canadian students in their
senior year of secondary school compare with those of students worldwide?

Students from four Canadian provinces, including B.C., were among
those from 24 countries tested for mathematics and science skills
in the latest round of the Third International Mathematics and Science
Study (TIMSS).

The results will be released Feb. 24 at a news conference at the
University of British Columbia.

Prof. David Robitaille, international TIMSS co-ordinator and head
of UBC’s Dept. of Curriculum Studies, will analyse the results and
answer questions about their significance.

TIMSS is the most comprehensive study ever undertaken to assess
and compare international student achievement in mathematics and
science. Earlier surveys gave the test results of grades 4 and 8
students from around the world.
