The impact of the Asia Pacific Economic Co-operation (APEC) economic
leaders’ meeting at the University of British Columbia is the topic
of a forum for the campus community to be held Jan. 20, 1998.

Panelists will address the question, “What can we learn from the
APEC experience about the role of universities in a democratic society?”

Prof. Lynn Smith, former dean of the Faculty of Law, will moderate
a panel discussion on APEC. The panelists will be UBC President
Martha Piper, Law Prof. Wesley Pue, students Shehnaz Karim and Jill
Chettiar of APEC Alert, and graduate student Arnab Guha of the University
Forum.

The forum will be held in the Chan Centre for the Performing Arts
from 12 to 2 p.m.
