Education minister helps faculty mark its 40th year

The Hon. Paul Ramsey, Minister of Education, Skills and Training,
will be a special guest speaker as the University of British
Columbia’s Faculty of Education celebrates its 40th anniversary.

UBC President Martha Piper is also a featured speaker at
the celebration’s opening ceremony, on Friday, Oct. 17 at
4 p.m. in the main lobby of the Neville Scarfe building, 2125
Main Mall.

On Saturday, Oct. 18, a day-long open house showcases the
faculty’s activities with lectures, displays and demonstrations.
Alumni, faculty, staff, students and their families are welcome
to attend. Faculty and class reunions will also be held throughout
the day.

The open house takes place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the
Scarfe building.

The Faculty of Education contributes greatly to education
in the province by preparing teachers for a broad range of
responsibilities in schools and by offering teachers further
professional development opportunities. More than half of
all teachers in B.C. are graduates of UBC’s Faculty of Education.

As well, 144 faculty members conduct research in areas ranging
from daycare and early childhood education to gerontology
education and exercise science.

Parking for both events is available in the West Parkade
on West Mall. Enter at Gate 6 off Southwest Marine Drive.
