Parents at home with homework

The role parents play in children’s learning at home is among the
issues examined by Jacquelyne Baker-Sennett, assistant professor
of Educational Psychology and Special Education, during her free
public lecture, At Home with Homework: Parents, Kids, Homework and
School Success. The lecture takes place Tuesday, May 13 at 7 p.m.
in the Judge White Theatre in the Robson Square Conference Centre.

Lively arts’ future in Canada under discussion

Actors, dancers, musicians, directors, critics and financiers meet
on campus May 9-11 to discuss the role of the arts in Canadian culture.
Former Canada Council chair Mavor Moore, film-maker Sandy Wilson
and David Bond of the Hongkong Bank of Canada are among the panelists
participating in Performance Matters: A Forum on the Lively Arts.
Arts funding, arts in education and differing cultural perceptions
in the arts are some of the topics to be discussed. The forum takes
place at the Chan Centre for the Performing Arts and the Frederic
Wood Theatre.

Commerce students enter first co-op program

The Faculty of Commerce and Business Administration has introduced
its first co-operative education program in the Management Information
Systems Division. The first students begin co-op terms May 1 working
with BC Hydro, SHL Systemhouse and Doane Raymond. Students in the
division study such topics as human-computer interfaces, information
systems analysis and design, and the impact of information technology
on organizations and group support systems.
