Two medical research centres established

Two new Faculty of Medicine research centres have been approved
at UBC. The Vancouver Vascular Biology Research Centre will work
to create new treatments and technologies for disorders of blood
vessels and other surfaces that come in contact with the blood.
The Respiratory Disease Centre will focus on areas such as asthma,
occupational and environmental lung disease and sleep-disordered
breathing.

Sherry Milne props up the stage Looking for the goose that laid
the golden egg? Sherry Milne, head of the Frederic Wood Theatre’s
props department, knows where to find it and thousands of other
items begged, borrowed and bought throughout her 28-year career.
Milne has everything from hatpins to hobby horses squirreled away
wherever she can find room on campus. One of her biggest challenges
was serving a full Hungarian peasant wedding banquet every night
for an 11-day run.

Students trick or treat for food banks

Point Grey and Kitsilano residents can expect some over-size ghouls
and goblins roaming their neighbourhoods looking for treats Halloween
night. For the fifth consecutive year, UBC students will canvass
for non-perishable food items to be donated to local food banks.
Last year’s drive netted 2,700 kilograms of food.
