Best and brightest of UBC alumni honoured

UBC alumni from the Class of ’17 to the Class of ’96 will be honoured
at the UBC Alumni Achievement and UBC Sports Hall of Fame Dinner
on Monday, Nov. 18 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel.

The gala dinner, which salutes the achievements of UBC graduates,
is hosted by journalist Allan Fotheringham, and Rick Hansen is the
keynote speaker. Both are UBC graduates.

The Alumni Awards recognize nine individuals for their outstanding
achievements. Among those being honoured this year are medical researcher
Dr. Edith McGeer, founding member of UBC’s Alma Mater Society, 100-year-old
Evelyn Lett, and the late Rosalind MacPhee, breast cancer advocate
and author of Picasso’s Woman. Other winners are recent graduates
on their way to outstanding careers.

Inductees into UBC’s Sports Hall of Fame, which honours the individuals
and teams who have contributed to the university’s long history
of sports excellence, include the 1947/48 men’s basketball team
and the late Father David Bauer, founder of Canada’s national hockey
team.

One individual, Charlotte Warren, is doubly honoured. Inducted
into the Sports Hall of Fame, she will also be awarded the Blythe
Eagles Volunteer Service award from the Alumni Association.

Net dinner proceeds will be used to support UBC Alumni and Athletic
scholarships, bursaries and development.
