St. John’s College Finds New Home at UBC

A ceremony and concrete pouring to mark the construction start
of St. John’s College at the University of British Columbia will
be held June 17 from 5-6 p.m.

Upon completion, St. John’s College, UBC, will be the fulfillment
of a life-long dream for many graduates of the original St. John’s
University in Shanghai, one of China’s most prestigious and influential
universities until it was closed in 1952.

Graduates led by the St. John’s University Alumni Association,
Hong Kong, have collaborated with UBC to find a home for the college
on the Point Grey campus.

The $16-million project will be a residential college for master’s
and PhD students, senior scholars and distinguished visitors. When
the first phase opens next year, it will, like its namesake, draw
students from both Asia and the West.
