B.C. engineers honour Irving K. Barber Learning Centre

Earth Tech Canada, the engineering firm that designed the Irving K. Barber Learning Centre's mechanical systems, has been recognized with an award of merit by the Consulting Engineers of British Columbia (CEBC).

To meet UBC's sustainability objectives, Earth Tech designed the building's heating and ventilation systems using thermoactive floor slabs that store and redirect heat and cooling energy. As a result, the centre will benefit from reduced mechanical equipment costs, and operational energy costs up to 60 per cent lower than conventional air-conditioning systems.
