Researchers use ’whale breath’ to study endangered orcas

UBC research on orcas off B.C.’s coast was featured by the Canadian Press.

Stephen Raverty, a professor at UBC’s Institute for the Oceans and Fisheries and lead study author, said post-mortem examinations of southern resident killer whales revealed that some of the animals had signs of pneumonia, and the scientists wanted to figure out what organisms were responsible.

The story appeared on CTV, CBCVancouver Sun, Castanet660 News, and Roundhouse Radio.
