Canada 150: Masajiro Miyazaki became first Japanese-Canadian politician

Masajiro Miyazaki, a UBC alumnus, was named to the Vancouver Sun’s list of 150 notable British Columbians.

Miyazaki and his wife were interned as enemy aliens at a camp near Lillooet. In 1950 he became the first citizen of Japanese ancestry elected to public office in Canada.
