Discussing softwood lumber dispute

UBC Sauder School of Business professor Ilan Vertinski discussed the Canada-U.S. softwood lumber dispute, and its implications for B.C.’s forestry industry on Roundhouse Radio.

He explained the potential cost to the B.C. economy if the deal is not completed.

“The exports from British Columbia in 2015 were $3.3 billion so this is quite huge,” he said. “This exposes the industry at least to hardship, and loss of jobs, closures of mills… Canada will try to divert its exports to other countries but there is a problem. China is the second largest target of exports and China is not doing so well.”
