B.C. teachers’ Supreme Court of Canada win

Charles Ungerleider, a UBC professor emeritus of educational studies, was interviewed on CBC’s BC Almanac after B.C. teachers won a landmark decision in the Supreme Court of Canada on labour rights including class size and composition.

Ungerleider noted that the decision has wide-reaching implications.

“It means that even governments have to keep their promises and that they can’t use state power to alter contracts,” he said. “That’s a very important principle that extends well beyond this particular instance to all Canadians and all walks of life.”
