More drugs mean seniors more likely to land in hospital

The National Post interviewed UBC geriatrician Roger Wong after a study revealed that the risk of seniors having to visit a hospital increases with each additional medication prescribed.

Wong said problems can arise from a lack of co-ordination between doctors and pharmacists, pressure from patients, or a multi-medication “cascade” which occurs when additional drugs are used to treat side effects of existing pills.
