Homophobia is killing gay and bisexual men

The Vancouver Sun published an op-ed on the danger of homophobia written by UBC postdoctoral researcher Olivier Ferlatte and UBC nursing professor John Oliffe.

Ferlatte and Oliffe cited a study that found half of Canadian gay and bisexual men have been bullied or harassed because of their sexuality.

“Research shows that gay and bisexual men are four times more likely to attempt suicide than heterosexual men,” they wrote. “We must challenge homophobia. If society does not change, gay and bisexual men will continue to die of suicide at a higher rate than heterosexual men.”
