More important to do electoral reform right than quickly

The Ottawa Citizen published an op-ed by Spencer McKay, a UBC political science PhD candidate, on the Canadian electoral reform process.

The Liberal government promised to have a new system in place by 2019 but McKay said adhering to the deadline is not vital.

“It’s time to give up on having a new system in place by 2019 and instead take the time to build legitimacy through a citizen-led process that encourages healthy debate on the issue,” he wrote.
