‘Underdiagnosed’ variety of heart attack striking new moms

CBC News interviewed UBC medicine professor Dr. Jacqueline Saw for a story on spontaneous coronary artery dissection, or SCAD.

“Patients with peripartum SCAD have a larger degree of heart attack in larger parts of the vessels,” said Saw, who is also the country’s leading expert in SCAD.

Saw says more research is needed on this type of heart attack, which is why she is spearheading a long-term nationwide study of SCAD patients.
