CBC News quoted UBC Sauder School of Business professor Tsur Somerville for a story on growing criticism of Mayor Robertson’s plan to tax vacant homes.
Some challenges of the proposed tax include finding out which homes are vacant, and determining what qualifies as vacant.
“It’s a good first step that would help renters,” Somerville said. “But ultimately it is not going to make Vancouver more affordable.”
