Bone marrow transplant can halt progression of aggressive MS

A Canadian Press story on CBC News focused on potential treatment for multiple sclerosis (MS) patients and quoted Dr. Anthony Traboulsee, medical director of the MS clinic at UBC Hospital.

Traboulsee commented after a study found that bone-marrow transplants stopped the progression of MS in 23 patients – one man died due to toxicity from high-dose chemotherapy – and reversed some symptoms in around 40 per cent of participants.

“The exciting part of this for me is it shows MS is an extremely treatable, potentially curable disease by targeting the immune system,” Traboulsee said.

The story also appeared on CTV, Globe and Mail, Yahoo Canada News and Metro News.
