Discussing “kill-chain” war lawyers

Craig Jones, a PhD candidate in UBC’s geography department spoke on Roundhouse Radio about “kill-chain” war lawyers.

The “kill chain” includes identifying a military target, gathering intelligence, choosing weapons, and approvals for weapon use.

Jones won UBC’s Three-Minute Thesis 2016 competition by condensing five years of work in three minutes.

“Law of war… does not minimize violence, but rather enables, legitimizes and even extends violence. So it’s very counter-intuitive. You’d expect law to minimize violence, to be something good, but it’s not,” Jones said.
