MOA exhibit captures surging interest in indigenous art

Karen Duffek, a curator with UBC’s Museum of Anthropology, was interviewed for a CBC story on the record opening of the exhibit by indigenous artist Lawrence Paul Yuxweluptun.

An estimated 2,000 guests attended the opening and Duffek said the attendees covered a range of demographics.

“…There was a huge range of ages. There were people of all nationalities, many aboriginal people and young people. Lawrence Paul’s directness, his relevance, his in-your-face fearless artwork and how he speaks publicly; it just really seems to be grabbing many people,” Duffek said.
