Elderly women more likely to be prescribed medication

A new UBC study has found that elderly women are overprescribed medications more often than older men, even accounting for other factors including the fact that women tend to live longer, reports United Press International and CBC News.

Nearly one in three women over age 65 are affected. The researchers said doctors should be made aware of this bias to protect women’s health, and it’s also important for patients to discuss their prescriptions with health-care providers to make sure they’re taking the right medications.
