The BC Big Tree Registry, a database of the biggest trees in the province, has found a new home in the UBC Faculty of Forestry. The registry has been revamped and is now available online so that users can search for big trees near their homes using interactive maps. With the new online system, anyone can now nominate a big tree for verification by a tree expert.
The Faculty will host a short ceremony to celebrate the re-launch of the database and a tree climbing demonstration. Speakers include:
- John Innes, Dean of the UBC Faculty of Forestry
- Andy Mackinnon, research ecologist and author of Plants of the Pacific Northwest Coast and other plant and tree field guides
- Sally Aitken, UBC professor of Forest and Conservation Sciences
For more information about big trees, read a Q&A with Aitken here.
