Sea lions roar at UBC lab

UBC’s Open Water Research Lab is highlighted in a new segment on The Daily Planet.

The one-of-a-kind facility trains and studies sea lions.

“We’ve trained them to do things that sea lions would be doing naturally, such as diving and looking for food. Our biggest question has been how much food do they require and therefore, are they getting enough to eat in Alaska? Is that why they’re declining?” said Andrew Trites, professor and director of the Marine Mammal Research Unit at UBC Fisheries Centre.
