Assignment/Photo editors: Vikram Vij will lead a South Asian cooking class for 16 UBC dietetics students. They will be preparing food for a reception later that evening to celebrate the opening. Vij, students and faculty will be available for interviews.

Chef Vikram Vij donated $250,000 toward the extensive makeover of a UBC culinary lab originally built in 1982. The renovated lab, now called Vij’s Kitchen, is a teaching and learning space where students study food, nutrition and health, healthy eating and healthy communities, and multicultural cuisine. Used primarily by the UBC dietetics program, the updated facilities are important for students learning basic food theory, food preparation in a domestic setting and for multicultural culinary exchange. UBC Continuing Studies also makes use of the space for courses on regional cuisine.
